* Welcome to the Official Home of the Village of Mt. Morris Website.  *

The 3,100 residents that call Mt Morris home enjoy a safe, proud, beautiful Village where the past and the present blend to provide a quality of life that only a small, mid western town can provide. Mt Morris is the home of the official State Freedom Bell. The beautiful bell, located on the historic College Campus Village square, is rung with great pride every July 4th at 1:00 p.m. to celebrate our precious heritage of freedom. The bell ringing is part of the annual Let Freedom Ring celebration. For over 50 years the Village has invited thousands to enjoy the festival. A huge parade, fireworks, speeches, music, a fun walk/run and other activities fill several days with fun for all ages. The festival is planned by an all volunteer committee and is funded by private donations. Mt Morris is a community of volunteers who work tirelessly on endless projects to make our Village the best . On summer evenings the community gathers at the Campus band shell to enjoy a free concert performed by the Kable municipal Band and to cool off with a treat from the ice cream social. As you sit there under the stars in the shadows of the over 150 year old College buildings you can let your thoughts wonder back to 1839 when proud old sandstone was the home of the Rock River Seminary, providing a college education to the early settlers. The printing and publishing industry has been a part of Mt Morris history since we were established in 1848 as a Village. Today more than one thousand people are employed here in Mt Morris by Kable News Company, Quebecor Printing Plant and Watt Publishing company. Mt Morris would like to welcome you to enjoy one of our fine restaurants, a game of golf, our Let Freedom Ring celebration, a walk in the park, a band concert, a stroll to take in the historic campus and learn the history and enjoy the beauty of the old college buildings or one of the enjoyable activities we as a Village provide.
